Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at each of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after his victory in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, if briefly, when he rotated at the fourth corner soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before rotating through the escape zone, and was fortunate to get away with just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner approaching the final bend on to the main straight.
The veteran ended the session in 19th, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, over half a second slower than Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
